[VintageLambo] Re: Jarama 10588

Body of Message

Charlie: I"m just an aspiring Lambo expert, and I"m certain that many VLG"ers would have far more knowledge concerning what was original and what was not. My car"s previous owner had it meticulously restored it for Pebble Beach in 1993 by Al Burtoni"s shop, and I understand that Valentino Balboni served as a consultant, so I imagine that he"d be an authoritative source. Even though it passed muster at Pebble for originality, I know that my car"s color isn"t exactly original, and Jack just told me that my car should have had Girling brake boosters originally (I know that it had Lockheed units in 1993, as it does again now). My car is a rather "F-car"-ish red, with an all-black interior - rather conservative. I don"t think that originality of color is such a big deal with Lambos, for a couple of reasons (with Porschephiles, it"s a big deal, by comparison): 1) the cars were more of a "custom", very low volume product, 2) the original colors aren"t too popular today, for whatever reason, and 3) my opinion - Lambo owners are simply not as uptight as other car collectors about it. I"ll always lean toward originality, and your greenish-gold interior sounds either awesome, but perhaps it could be abit over the top! Personally, I like strange and even wacky interiors (I"d even have those "psychadelic checkerboard" seats if I drove a "70"s Porsche 928), and I can"t even picture what "greenish gold" would look like. I draw the line, however, on exterior color. Some cars, Jarama included, are very sensitive to color, and the wrong colors just kill the look. If you don"t like the original color, it probably won"t grow on you, so changing it is a good move in my opinion. Far more than the interior, the exterior color seems to change the cars personality. "Sounds like you"ll have a very sweet car when you get done with your work! I can"t wait to see it, if you post pictures. Noah Jarama 10488 .
