Actually if the booster has gone bad the brakes would be very firm as there is no engine vacuum to assist and make braking easier. I think it is time to flush the brakes out & bleed them. It is also possible that the calipers may behaving a problem, check the slides for proper movement. Make sure they are lubed well and slide easily. also check the pistons by blocking off the brake hose and opening the bleeder valve. Compress the piston with a c-clamp and old brake pad. If it takes a lot of effort replace or rebuild the caliper. just my $0.02 Roman lamboguy wrote: >Hi David, > >There are 2 things that come to mind when you said the brakes are not >that firm. One is that the pedal goes down too far before the brakes >work, which means that the car needs the brakes bled. The other >thing is that the boosters are disconnected or somehow not working, >which means that the brakes don"t work very well -- ie: the car >doesn"t seem to have good brakes. > >I don"t know the Islero, but I suspect it should stop like my 400, >which means the brakes should be really pretty darned good.If you >notice that they don"t do a good job stopping the car, and that you >really have to press down hard to get them to slow the car down, then >I suspect the problem is with the boosters. > >I would start by asking the owner about the history of the brakes. >The original Girling boosters have a bad habit of going belly up. > >But even more importantly, whoever buys a Lamborghini should keep the >following in mind.If you are not mechanically experienced with this >sort of thing, make sure you have a lot of money to spend on sorting >the car out.If the brakes are bad, chances are other systems in the >car are close to being bad. There is certainly a "law of similar >wear" floating around that works wonderfully with our cars.If the >brakes have a problem, the rings, ball joints, timing chain and 2nd- >gear synchro are probably ready to go too.(etc.) > >So, make sure the car is checked out by a "competent" shop before >buying. And make sure the bank account and all signers of this bank >account are aware that the actual purchase of a lamborghini is just >the start of the final investment in the car. > >That being done, go for it and enjoy! > >My best, > >Fred > > > > > > > > > > >Your use of Yahoo!
