Finished in azzuro notte (midnight blue) with senape (natural mustard) pigskin interior, the car was imported by Lamborghini"s East Coast US distributor Jake Kaplan. The first owner was Clifton L Howell, of Winter Haven, Florida, who had the car overhauled and the engine rebuilt by Robert Cressman Foreign Cars and then sold it to Alexander M Patch of Ft Lauderdale, Florida on January 18th 1974. The present owner purchased the car from Mr. Patch on May 3rd 1982. In June 1987 the car underwent a mechanical, cosmetic and interior restoration (details available) subsequently achieving 1st place in the judged club concours at Pocono Raceway in July 1987, at New Hope, PA in August 1987 and at the Washington Congressional Concours d"Elegance in May 1988, where it also won "Best in Show" for all European cars. In 1996, it was driven to the Lime Rock, Connecticut Vintage Fall Festival where it won the "distance" trophy and featured in ESPN"s report on the event. In 1998, after a few spirited laps in the driver"s seat, Lamborghini Chief Test Driver Valentino Balboni enthused: "the old girl is a beautiful joy with lots of tricks left in her." In Spring 2000, the car completed the VSCCA New York-New Jersey Tour and recently underwent a complete mechanical and cosmetic freshening at Exoticars USA, in Frenchtown, NJ, including a full top- end rebuild and seats re-upholstered in pigskin hide from the same Italian tannery that supplied the original material. "1276" has been impeccably maintained subsequent to completion of its 1987 rebuild. From 1988-1994 routine maintenance, lubrication and other work was performed, including fitting the car with new window motors, sparkplugs, battery and electrical wiring, and adjustment of timing, valves, and carburetors. In 1995 and 1996 maintenance included: replacing the starter motor, heat shield, brushes, solenoid, A-arms, ball joints and bushings, hoses, oil cooler, engine oil seals, passenger door glass and tires. A suspension alignment was carried out and the clutch rebuilt. During 1997-"99 further maintenance was executed on the differential, exhaust system, tachometer, brakes, wheel bearings, throttle linkage, alternator, PVC Valve, oil and fuel lines and brake boosters. In "2002/2003 "Exoticars USA" completed a total rebuild of the engine top-end with new valves, seals and guides, distributor and ignition parts, wiring harness, sparkplugs, hoses, re-conditioned camshafts, and rebuilt the carburettors and the water, fuel and oil pumps. Accompanying documentation includes all service and restoration records since 1974, the original operating manual, parts catalogue, sales brochure, wiring diagram, factory build sheets, correspondence with Ferrucio Lamborghini and original photographs of "1276" signed by Mr. Lamborghini and by Valentino Balboni. A CD-ROM containing may still photographs of the car and a videotape, which reproduces the EPSN report, are available. |
