1969 Plymouth Roadrunner, manual steering,brakes,4spd,ram air,4.10 posi and a bench seat. Street raced it more than I care to admit. Still have it. Over one hundred cars since then. Current collection of time and money sponges: 1968 Ferrari GTC-its as good as everyone says 1971 Lamborghini Jarama-still trying to get it running 1967 Porsche 911 vintage racer-still in the paint shop 1989 Range Rover-reliable as hell and gets me and the mountain bikes anywhere 2001 Bullitt Mustang-hey, I love the movie 1973 BMW 2002 racecar-supercharged and equipped with N20 1972 Buick GS455-2 owner car with 45,000m , looks stock but its not. 1971 Dodge Dart Swinger-roadracer-yes,roadracer I might as well throw in my .02 worth regarding fastest 4 seaters (60s,70s). Some of the muscle cars-421 Pontiacs, Hemi Plymouths and Dodges and Big Block Chevies would run some amazingly high top speeds when equipped with the right rear end ratio. Not many people realize this as most were ordered with drag gearing. Finally, here is a true story regarding my first encounter with an exotic. I was a senior in high school in "75 and my friends and I were out looking for some street racing action. We were driving Robert"s 1967 289 Mustang. It was equipped with the typical mods of the day-Holley 4bbl,headers,ignition mods, american mags and maybe gears. It was a reasonably quick street car that could still be driven back and forth to school. We had not had much luck finding a race and now it was getting late. We were on our way home and stopped at a red light. We heard the sound of what sounded to us like an F1 engine downshifting as it slowed for the light. We looked over and saw this European looking "Dude in a car none of us had ever seen. I don"t know how many of you have seen the movie, The Italian Job, but this guy looked exactly like the guy driving the Muira at the beginning of the movie. Anyway, being the kids that we were, we began to rev up the Mustang engine. The other driver ignored us. The light changed to green and Robert launched the Mustang hard. He stayed in it and got rubber in second. He was just going for third, when we heard this hi revved scream coming up behind us. Robert banged off third and wound the small block for all it was worth. No use. The car in the other lane passed us like we had blown an engine-all the time enveloping us with this incredible wail of exhaust noise. As luck would have it we caught up the the other car at another light. We hung back for an instant to read the nameplates-Lamborghini Espada. As the light changed to green, Robert gave it another go, with the same result. We jumped out to an early lead, only to have the Espada rip by like there was no tomorrow. This time though, the Lamborghini driver gave us a short blast from the airhorns as he passed. There were no more traffic lights for quite a while and he stayed in it. As he disappeared into the distance, we slowed and listened to that wonderful sound. I"ve owned, raced and driven plenty of cars much faster than that Espada since then, but none of us ever forgot that late night introduction to something special. sorry this was so long-figured this group would understand
